About Donald
Donald Gallick brings a methodical and courtroom-tested background to his private practice. He earned a J.D. from the University of Akron in 1998 after completing a B.A. in History and Philosophy at Ohio University in 1995. He returned to the academy for a master’s degree in History and Bioethics at Cleveland State University in 2002. In 2011 he attended the Trial Lawyer College for trial advocacy training, an experience that deepened his practical skills at the lectern.
His early career included a stint as an Assistant Prosecuting Lawyer for the City of Cleveland in 2001. That role put him on the front line of charging decisions, courtroom procedure and trial preparation. He transitioned into private practice and opened his own firm in 2004. Since then he has managed a caseload that spans trial work and appellate matters, alternating between the roles of courtroom advocate and appellate strategist as circumstances require.
Licenses to practice extend beyond the state level. He is admitted in Ohio and holds admissions to the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The Supreme Court of Ohio has certified him under Rule 20 as Death Penalty Certified for appeals and trial co-counsel. That certification allows him to serve alongside lead counsel in capital cases when appointed or retained.
Gallick’s training and work reflect a preference for contested courtroom work. His Trial Lawyer College experience is complemented by years of trial practice. He has served as both prosecutor and defense-oriented counsel, gaining perspective on how cases evolve from charging through appeal. He often handles evidentiary hearings, jury trials and appellate briefs. His practice emphasizes litigation and procedural work rather than transactional matters.
Clients and colleagues describe him as practical and deliberate in court. He prepares evidence and witnesses himself and spends time drafting appeals when the record requires it. Outside the courtroom he has an academic interest in legal history and bioethics, an interest rooted in his graduate studies. He continues to accept appointments and cases that call for trial experience and appellate advocacy.
He currently operates a private practice under the name Donald Gallick, Esq., and focuses his work on criminal trial and appellate litigation, including roles as appeals and trial co-counsel in capital cases.
