About Wesley
Wesley Buchanan took an unconventional route into law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Heidelberg College in 1999, then spent several years working in the insurance and financial services field. He returned to school and completed a J.D. at the University of Akron in 2009, moving from private-sector practice into legal work soon after.
His early career included founding Buchanan Insurance & Financial Group in 2003. Running an agency gave him experience in client counseling, regulatory matters and transactional work long before he began practicing law. That business background shapes how he approaches legal problems: attention to detail, an eye for costs and an interest in practical solutions.
Buchanan has been active in bar associations in both Ohio and California. He holds memberships in the Akron Bar Association since 2009, the Portage County Bar Association since 2013, and the Ohio State Bar Association since 2013. He is also listed as a member of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers from 2013 onward, and he joined the State Bar of California in 2017. Those memberships suggest a practitioner who stays connected to the profession across two jurisdictions.
He is licensed to practice in Ohio and California. His practice has spanned a mix of matters that draw on his dual background in insurance, finance and criminal defense membership circles. Cases and client matters have required both courtroom work and transactional attention. He has handled client intake and strategy development, and his experience running a small business influences how he manages client expectations and firm operations.
Buchanan serves as the principal of Buchanan Law, Inc. The firm provides a neighborhood-style law office that handles a range of legal needs. He balances casework with the administrative responsibilities of running a law firm, and his prior role as an agency owner informs firm systems and client communications. Colleagues and contacts in the bar associations form a practical network he consults on procedural and substantive issues.
Today he maintains active memberships in multiple bar associations and practices in both Ohio and California. His current practice focuses on delivering legal services that reflect his combined experience in insurance, finance and criminal defense-related matters.
