Dirk Deverne Potter is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in December 1982. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Potter is a member of Jacobs, Anderson, Potter & Chaplin, LLP, a law firm located in Chico, California. He has been practicing law in Chico since 1982, serving clients throughout Butte County and the surrounding areas.
Mr. Potter earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Law, graduating in 1982. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State University, Chico, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1979. During his time at CSU Chico, he graduated with honors, demonstrating his academic commitment and aptitude.
Mr. Potter's practice areas include landlord-tenant law, conservatorship, and probate matters. He represents individuals and businesses in disputes involving property management, tenant evictions, and estate administration. His practice encompasses all stages of legal proceedings, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Potter has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Butte, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. In addition to his legal practice, he has served as an adjunct professor of Business Law at California State University, Chico, since 1983, and has taught at Cal Northern School of Law since 2000, teaching Administrative Law, Employment Law, and Contracts.
Mr. Potter is an active member of the California Lawyers Association and has been involved in various community organizations. He served as President of the Butte County Bar Association in 1999 and is a Past-President of the North Valley Property Owners Association and the Greater Chico Kiwanis. He is also married and has three adult children.
