About Diane Leigh
Diane Leigh Davison built a career at the intersection of law and the arts. She brought a technical undergraduate background into legal study and then into a practice shaped by entertainment and intellectual property issues.
She earned a B.S. in mathematics and computer science from Haverford College in 1988. She studied entertainment law and intellectual property at New York Law School in 1991, then completed a J.D. at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 1992. Those years combined technical training and specialized legal study, a combination that shows in the cases she has taken on.
Early in her career she served as executive director of Maryland Lawyers for the Arts in 1989. She then worked as a law clerk in the Entertainment Law Group at Phillips, Nizer, Benjamin, Krim & Ballon in 1991. After receiving her J.D., she joined the board of Maryland Lawyers for the Arts in 1992 and opened her own practice in 1993 as the Law Office of Diane Leigh Davison.
Her civic and organizational work runs alongside the private practice. She was vice president of Women In Film & Video of Maryland in 1994 and later served as president of Maryland Lawyers for the Arts in 2000. In 2009 she joined the board of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc., where she also provided legal counsel. In 2010 she became president of Copyright Termination Services, Inc. These roles reflect steady involvement in organizations that connect creators, performers and legal frameworks.
Davison’s legal credentials include admission in Maryland and appearances before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Federal Circuit. She holds a BV Distinguished rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Her practice has long encompassed entertainment and intellectual property matters, and she has handled issues related to copyrights, licensing and rights restoration.
She has kept her practice small and specialized. Since 1993 she has practiced as the owner of the Law Office of Diane Leigh Davison. She continues to work on intellectual property and entertainment matters, including copyright termination and licensing disputes, through her private practice.
