About Diane
Diane Cherry began her legal pathway after studying urban issues and law in the Northeast. She earned a B.A. in Urban Studies from New York University in 1981, attended the University of Vermont in 1979 as part of her undergraduate studies in urban studies, and received her J.D. from Temple University in 1985. Those academic roots informed an early interest in litigation that touched community and family matters.
Her early practice years led to a partnership in 1995 at Swanson & Cherry LLP. That role placed her in the day-to-day work of a mid-size firm, handling contested matters and courtroom appearances. In 2001 she left to start The Cherry Law Office, P.C., where she established an independent practice and took on a broader mix of casework and court appointments.
She is admitted to practice in Georgia and before the Eleventh Circuit. Over the years she has accepted several court roles in Cobb County Superior Court, serving as a guardian ad litem and as a special master. Those assignments have involved fact-finding, recommendations to the court, and oversight in complex proceedings.
Professional associations have been a steady part of her career. She has belonged to the Georgia Bar Association since 1992, participating in its Family Law and Criminal Defense section. Locally she maintains membership in the Cobb Bar Association. She is also a member of the Center for Collaborative Law — Georgia, which reflects an interest in alternative dispute processes alongside contested litigation.
Her courtroom work and bar involvement intersect. Serving as guardian ad litem has kept her connected to family court practice. Her activity in the criminal defense section indicates experience on that side of criminal matters. She has handled cases in trial and appellate settings, including filings before the Eleventh Circuit when appeals have arisen.
Colleagues describe her as thorough in case preparation and steady under pressure. She has balanced private practice with court-appointed duties for many years. The Cherry Law Office, P.C., which she founded, remains her primary office and base of operations.
Today she maintains a practice in Georgia that encompasses family law, criminal defense, and related court-appointed roles. Her current work blends trial litigation, court petitions, and roles assigned by the Cobb County Superior Court.
