About Devan
Devan Byrd earned his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2017 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Birmingham-Southern College in 2013. He moved from the classroom to the courthouse with steady purpose. The degrees supply the foundation for a practice built around litigation in Alabama and its federal districts.
Byrd began his legal career at Hare, Wynn, Newell & Newton, LLP, joining the firm as a staff lawyer in 2017. He handled early case work there and continued to develop his litigation skills across a range of civil matters. That early experience gave him day-to-day exposure to motions practice, discovery disputes and courtroom procedure in both state and federal settings.
He is admitted to practice in the State of Alabama and in the U.S. District Courts for the Middle, Southern and Northern Districts of Alabama. Those admissions allow him to represent clients at multiple levels of the trial court system. He has applied that access to pursue civil claims and to appear in federal proceedings when cases require it.
Professional involvement has been a consistent part of his career. Byrd holds memberships in the Alabama Association for Justice and the Birmingham Bar Association. He serves on the Alabama Association of Justice Emerging Leaders Board as part of its four-year rotation and sits on the Executive Committee of the Alabama State Bar Young Lawyers Section. He also serves on the Birmingham Regional Board of the Alabama Head Injury Foundation. These roles keep him connected to continuing education, trial advocacy programs and regional medical-legal networks.
Colleagues describe him as methodical and focused on practical solutions for clients, favoring clear strategy over flash. He works through the discovery phase carefully and prepares witnesses for deposition and trial. His day-to-day work involves drafting pleadings, arguing motions and coordinating with experts when cases require specialized medical or technical testimony.
Outside the office, Byrd’s board work with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation reflects an interest in the medical aspects of injury cases and in community outreach to support injured people and their families. He maintains relationships with local physicians and rehabilitation providers to better inform case evaluation and client counseling.
He practices at Hare, Wynn, Newell & Newton, LLP, and focuses his practice on civil litigation in Alabama and the federal district courts where he is admitted.
