About Dennis B.
Dennis B. Laughlin built a technical foundation before he ever entered a courtroom. He earned a B.S. in computer science from the University of Missouri–Rolla in 1984 and an M.S. in computer science from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1987. Two decades after beginning his career in technology he completed a J.D. at Western New England University School of Law in 2004.
That combination of technical and legal training shaped the early contours of his career. By 2005 he was serving as managing partner at Tracy's Law Office, a role that put him in charge of day-to-day firm operations as well as client work. In 2011 he took on a municipal role as village lawyer for the Village of Cherry Valley, New York, a post that involved advising local officials on ordinances, contracts and procedural matters.
In 2020 Laughlin became a managing partner at Donovan Laughlin and Laughlin, LLC. His responsibilities there have included firm management and overseeing the legal work coming out of the firm's local offices. He has maintained ties to the legal community throughout. He has been a member of the Otsego County Bar Association since 2005 and belongs to the New York State Bar Association as well.
Colleagues and clients have noted the practical, detail-oriented approach he brings to problems. His prior degrees in computer science inform the way he handles complicated factual records and technical questions. That background has also made him a resource for municipal clients dealing with procedural or systems issues.
Laughlin's practice has been anchored in central New York. He has held offices in both Oneonta and Cherry Valley. Those local ties have shaped the kinds of matters he fields and the clients he serves, ranging from individual residents to village governments and small businesses.
He balances firm leadership with active lawyering. He continues to counsel municipal officials and to manage legal work at Donovan Laughlin and Laughlin, LLC. He currently practices from offices in Oneonta and Cherry Valley, serving clients across the region.
