About David S.
David S. Bland graduated from Tulane University with a B.A. in 1979 and earned his J.D. from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1982. His legal education came at a time of change in Louisiana law. He entered practice after law school and built a steady federal and state trial practice over the following decades.
He has been admitted to practice in both Louisiana and Texas. His federal admissions are extensive. They include the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Claims, the Fifth Circuit, and numerous U.S. district courts across Louisiana, Texas, and elsewhere — specifically the Eastern, Middle, Southern and Western districts of Louisiana and the Eastern, Northern and Southern districts of Texas. That range has allowed him to appear in bench and jury matters in several jurisdictions.
His career has involved both courtroom work and counsel roles for clients facing complex litigation. He has handled matters that required filings and arguments in federal trial courts and appeals in the Fifth Circuit. He also has experience managing the procedural demands of cases in courts such as the Court of Claims and in proceedings before the nation’s highest court. Over time he developed practical familiarity with the differences between state and federal litigation in the Gulf Coast region.
Bland’s professional affiliations include membership in Bland & Partners. He has worked alongside colleagues in that firm to handle civil litigation across state and federal venues. His practice history shows a pattern of representing clients in contested litigation rather than transactional work. He has been involved in preparation of motions, trial strategy, evidentiary hearings and appellate briefs when matters progressed beyond the trial level.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained the kinds of client contact and case management expected of a litigator who regularly moves matters through multiple court systems. He has handled jurisdictional questions, discovery disputes and the logistical challenges of coordinating filings in different federal districts. His experience spans local rules and the procedural nuances that vary by district.
Today he practices through Bland & Partners. His current practice focuses on civil litigation in state and federal courts, including trial and appellate work across Louisiana and Texas and before several federal tribunals.
