About David
David Maxted earned his law degree and a master’s degree in philosophy from Duke University in 2009. He completed his undergraduate studies at Amherst College in 2005, where he studied law, jurisprudence and social thought. Those academic years set the stage for a career that moved quickly from courtroom work to running a small firm.
He began his legal career at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. There he worked as a trial lawyer and served in a supervising capacity. The experience placed him regularly in courtrooms and in charge of case teams. It also exposed him to the practical demands of trial preparation and courtroom advocacy early in his career.
After his time with the Public Defender Service, Maxted spent a period in private practice. In 2018 he joined Haddon, Morgan and Foreman, P.C. as an associate. That role added another dimension to his practice, putting him in the position of representing clients within a different institutional setting than public defense. Two years later he launched his own firm, Maxted Law LLC, where he is listed as owner and lawyer as of 2020.
Maxted is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and in Colorado. He has been a member of the Colorado Bar Association since 2018 and holds other professional memberships that date back to 2009. Those affiliations reflect the geographic reach of his practice and the continuity of his engagement with bar organizations over time.
His professional record emphasizes courtroom work and case supervision. Early trial experience and later associate work combined to give him recurring responsibilities for litigation management. Colleagues and clients have seen him in roles that require both hands-on advocacy and the supervision of case teams.
Since founding Maxted Law LLC he has maintained a private practice that draws on his earlier trial and supervisory roles. He manages matters in jurisdictions where he is licensed and continues to handle litigated cases. He currently concentrates his practice on litigation in the District of Columbia and Colorado.
