About David Matthew
David Matthew Cedar began his academic path at Brandeis University, where he earned a B.A. in American Studies in 1987. He went on to Rutgers School of Law–Newark and received his J.D. in 1992. Those years set the stage for a career that has moved between litigation, arbitration and firm leadership.
After law school Mr. Cedar served as a clerk to Judge Marvin Schloscher in 1992. He entered private practice the following year as an associate at Segal & Andres. By 1999 he was a partner at Segal, Gibney, Burns & Cedar, signaling an early transition into firm leadership and trial work.
He has founded or helped found several firms over the course of his career. In 2000 he became a founding partner of Merovitz and Cedar. That partnership evolved into Merovitz, Cedar and Gruber in 2006. He created Cedar Law Office in 2009, then took another step in 2017 as a founding partner of Williams Cedar, LLC. The sequence shows steady movement toward building and shaping practices rather than joining established hierarchies.
Cedar is admitted in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He holds certification as a Civil Trial Lawyer from the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Local courts have also recognized his work in arbitration; he is a certified arbitrator in civil matters for the Camden County, Cumberland County and Burlington County Superior Courts. Those credentials support both courtroom trial work and alternative dispute resolution roles.
Professional memberships form a visible strand of his career. He belongs to the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice and the New Jersey Association for Justice. He is active in county bar activities in Camden and Burlington. In the American Association for Justice Civil Rights Section he has served as Vice Chair since 2009 and was listed as Chair Elect in 2010, reflecting sustained engagement in the section’s leadership over time.
He maintains offices in Philadelphia and New Jersey and continues to practice as a founding partner of Williams Cedar, LLC. His current practice handles civil litigation and arbitration matters across state and federal forums, including appeals at the Third Circuit level.
