About David M.
David M. Smith built a legal career that mixes client work and law firm leadership. He has held partner and managing roles at multiple firms in South Carolina, and he currently serves as managing partner at Smith Ammons, LLC.
Smith earned his undergraduate degree from Francis Marion University in 2002. He went on to receive a J.D. from the Charleston School of Law. Those years set the foundation for a practice grounded in South Carolina law and the bar community.
His professional path moved quickly into firm leadership. In 2012 he became a partner at Cobb, Smith & Frost, LLC. Two years later he left that arrangement to form his own practice. In 2014 he opened Smith Law Group, LLC as owner and managing lawyer, taking on both client matters and the administrative work of running a small firm.
A year after founding Smith Law Group, he joined Smith Ammons, LLC as managing partner, a title he has held since 2015. That role expanded his responsibilities beyond casework. He oversees operations, helps set firm strategy, and works directly with clients. His practice remains anchored in South Carolina, where he maintains active membership in the South Carolina Bar.
Colleagues and clients see him as someone who knows how to balance the demands of litigation and firm management. Over time he has handled a range of matters that require courtroom preparation, negotiation and client counseling. He has also taken on the administrative duties that come with leading a law firm, from staffing to workflow systems.
Outside the office he keeps ties to the local legal community through the South Carolina Bar. He participates in bar activities and stays engaged with changes in state law and court practice. That involvement informs how he advises clients and runs his practice.
Today he is based at Smith Ammons, LLC. He represents clients in matters arising under South Carolina law and continues to combine hands-on legal work with the responsibilities of running a firm. His practice focuses on representing clients across South Carolina and managing the firm’s day-to-day operations.
