About David A.

David A. Payne built a legal identity out of steady local practice and long-standing ties to southwest Missouri. He grew up academically focused on communication, earning a B.S. in Public Relations from the University of Central Missouri in 1996. That background led him to law school at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1999. He has practiced in Missouri since finishing his legal education.

Payne moved into estate planning work and by 2008 was listed as an estate planning lawyer at Ozarks Legacy Law, LLC. He has maintained a presence there for years, handling matters that commonly arise in wills, trusts and probate. His approach is straightforward. He aims to translate legal documents into terms clients can use when making personal decisions.

Outside the firm, Payne has been active in the local bar. He is a past president of the 39th Judicial Circuit Bar Association and has been involved with the organization since 2005. That role placed him among other local attorneys discussing procedural issues, court operations and the bar’s educational programming. He has served in the kinds of association roles that are often quietly important to small-court communities.

Clients and colleagues describe Payne as steady and practical in his work. He typically handles estate planning files that range from simple wills to more complex trust arrangements. He also advises on guardianship and probate matters when a client’s plan comes into play after incapacity or death. He is known for laying out options clearly and for walking people through estate documents at a pace that matches their understanding.

Ozarks Legacy Law maintains offices in Nixa, Republic and Aurora. Payne sees clients across those offices, meeting in person for initial planning sessions and follow-up reviews. He also handles estate updates when life changes—marriage, the arrival of children, shifts in assets—require revisions. His ties to the region shape his practice; he works with people whose affairs are often tied to family farms, small businesses and multigenerational homes.

Throughout his career, Payne has balanced the technical demands of drafting documents with the interpersonal side of advising clients through sensitive moments. He remains based at Ozarks Legacy Law and continues to accept new estate planning and probate matters. He currently practices estate planning at Ozarks Legacy Law, serving clients from the firm’s Nixa, Republic and Aurora offices.
