About Darrell G. Griffin
Darrell G. Griffin Jr. built a career that bridges military service, small business ownership and courtroom work. He served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army in the 1990s. Years later he ran Freedom Coffee, a small business he started in 2008. Those early chapters shaped his practical instincts and approach to problem solving.
He returned to formal study and earned a J.D. from Humphreys College in 2017. He continued his legal education at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, completing an LL.M. in 2022. The additional degree signaled an interest in deepening his legal training and expanding the range of issues he could handle.
Griffin moved into public-sector legal work soon after law school. In 2018 he worked as a deputy public defender at Richard A. Ciummo and Associates and took on independent-contract matters for the Law Office of Mina L. Ramirez the same year. The following year he served as a deputy district lawyer for Stanislaus County, a role that gave him experience on the prosecutorial side of criminal matters. In 2021 he established Griffin Legal Defense, where he has practiced as a lawyer since that time.
His career path reflects a steady immersion in courtroom work. Time as a public defender required client counseling, case preparation and trial readiness. Time inside a prosecutor’s office offered a different perspective on case strategy and evidence handling. That combination informs his day-to-day practice and his assessment of cases.
Outside the courtroom, Griffin maintains professional and safety-oriented certifications. He is a C.P.R. instructor through the National Safety Council and holds a Rescue Diver certification from PADI. He is also a member of the California Public Defenders Association and the San Joaquin County Bar Association, both since 2022.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in the courtroom and straightforward with clients. He handles the administrative and procedural details that underlie trial work, while also managing client expectations through clear communication. He draws on earlier life experience—military medical training and running a small business—when evaluating stressful situations and planning practical next steps.
Today he practices at Griffin Legal Defense in California, where he applies his public defense and prosecutorial experience to criminal matters and related legal issues.
