About Adam A.

Adam A. Ramirez earned his Juris Doctor from Humphreys College Laurence Drivon School of Law in 2008, after beginning his legal studies in 2003. He later returned to the classroom on the other side of the podium. He now teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Humphreys University Lawrence Drivon School of Law, where he brings practical courtroom experience into the seminar room.

Ramirez’s entry into legal work began while he was still in school. In 2005 he worked as a legal assistant and law clerk for Christopher K. Eley, building foundation skills in research and brief writing. After finishing law school he joined Hakeem, Ellis & Marengo as an associate in 2008. Those early years combined client work, discovery practice and appearances in trial courts.

He is admitted to practice in California and in several federal forums. His admissions include the Ninth Circuit and the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of California, and the United States Tax Court. That mix of state and federal credentials has shaped the types of matters he handles and the venues in which he appears.

Ramirez has been active in professional organizations for much of his career. He has served on the Judge Consuelo M. Callahan American Inn of Court since 2005 and has been a member of the State Bar of California Litigation Section since 2010. Since 2012 he has chaired the Judicial Nominees Evaluation Committee of the San Joaquin County Bar Association, a role that has involved evaluating candidates and engaging with the local bench and bar.

His practice is based at Hakeem Ellis & Marengo. He continues to handle litigation and related proceedings in both state and federal courts, and he represents clients before the United States Tax Court when tax-related disputes arise. In the classroom he focuses on giving students a clearer view of courtroom procedure and case preparation based on ongoing practice.

He balances teaching with a caseload that includes civil litigation and tax matters. He currently practices at Hakeem Ellis & Marengo, where his work involves litigation in state and federal courts and representation in tax proceedings.
