About Daniel F.
Daniel F. Deraney took a circuitous path into law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the State University of New York at Albany in 2009, where he also studied criminal justice, psychology and sociology. He began his legal studies at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center before transferring to Suffolk University Law School. He completed his J.D. at Suffolk in 2013, having taken courses in criminal law, civil rights law and employment and labor law.
Early in his legal training Deraney pursued internships and research roles that exposed him to courtroom work and client-side issues. He interned at the Essex County Superior Court in 2011 and worked as a research and office assistant in 2012 for the Office of Harvey A. Silverglate. That same year he served as a research assistant at King & King. Those positions gave him practical exposure to legal research and courtroom procedure, and to the day-to-day work that supports trial advocacy.
After law school he moved into roles that combined practice-side work with management responsibilities. He returned to Javerbaum & Wurgaft, where he had interned earlier, and worked as a paralegal in 2014. Also in 2014 he took on the title of Director of Legal Affairs at Zeki Electrical Management Services. The mix of firm and in-house work in those years broadened his view of how legal problems are handled across settings.
In 2015 Deraney founded his own practice, The Law Offices of Daniel F. Deraney. He has been listed as the lawyer and owner of that firm since then. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He has held active membership in the Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association since 2014.
Deraney’s educational choices and early roles signal the types of matters he handles. His coursework in criminal law and civil rights, combined with hands-on experience in courts and firms, align with defense and civil litigation work. His time as Director of Legal Affairs also provided experience with employer-side issues and compliance questions.
Colleagues describe his approach as straightforward and detail-oriented. He aims to prepare files carefully and to make clear explanations to clients. He manages his own firm and handles litigation and counseling across criminal, civil rights and employment matters.
He currently operates The Law Offices of Daniel F. Deraney and handles criminal defense, civil rights and employment law matters.
