About D. Alex
D. Alex Onstott built a foundation in international affairs before turning to law. He earned a B.S. in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2010, then moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2015.
While still in law school, Onstott combined classroom study with practical experience. He interned for the City of New Orleans in 2014. He also worked at the Murray Law Office, first as a law clerk in 2013 and then returning as an associate after graduation in 2015. Those early roles introduced him to courtroom procedures and the day-to-day demands of client representation.
Onstott added federal court experience later in his career. In 2020 he served as a Term Law Clerk at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. That temporary appointment placed him at the center of complex procedural work and exposed him to a broad range of federal filings and hearings.
In 2017 he became a member of Ciolino & Onstott, LLC. The firm listing appears as his principal office affiliation, and it is where he has spent much of the last decade. His practice has crossed municipal, state, and federal lines, reflecting the variety of his earlier positions.
Colleagues and court observers note that Onstott’s path has been marked by steady movement between public-sector roles and private practice. He has balanced trial-related tasks, clerking responsibilities and municipal work. Those shifts allowed him to handle research, draft pleadings, and participate in hearings from multiple vantage points.
Onstott is admitted in Louisiana. He continues to work from the firm office and maintains professional memberships tied to his practice. He approaches each matter in a straightforward manner and relies on courtroom experience gained both as a clerk and as an advocate.
He currently practices at Ciolino & Onstott, LLC, representing clients in state and federal matters.
