About Curtis C.
Curtis C. Alfrey earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1992 after completing a bachelor’s degree in history at Colorado College in 1986. Those years set the foundation for a career that moved from public service into private practice. He studied at a time when courtroom procedure and case law were changing rapidly, and he entered the profession at the start of a new decade.
Almost immediately after law school he began work in the Denver legal system. In 1992 he served as Chief Deputy District Lawyer at the Denver District Lawyer's Office. The title placed him in the center of district-level work and gave him firsthand exposure to the mechanics of criminal prosecutions and case management inside a busy office.
In 2008 he shifted to private practice and joined Alfrey & Associates, PC as a criminal defense lawyer. That move marked a change in role from public prosecutor to defense counsel. At Alfrey & Associates he handles matters in Colorado courts and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado as well. His practice includes criminal defense work and matters related to impaired driving, reflecting his involvement with professional groups that emphasize that area.
Alfrey maintains professional affiliations that parallel his career path. He has been a member of the Colorado Bar Association since 1992 and is currently a member of the National College for DUI Defense. Those memberships place him in networks focused on both general practice issues and specialized topics related to driving under the influence cases. He also holds admission in Colorado and in the federal district court for the District of Colorado.
Colleagues describe his path as one that traverses public and private roles, giving him perspective on how cases are handled from multiple viewpoints. He represents clients in state and federal forums and brings years of experience in Colorado legal circles to each matter he accepts. He currently practices criminal defense at Alfrey & Associates, PC, handling state and federal matters including DUI-related cases.
