About Craig Steven

Craig Steven Mielke built his legal foundation at the University of Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1977 and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Illinois College of Law in 1980. Those years shaped his understanding of the law and the institutions that apply it.

Early in his career he became active in local bar work. He served on the Kane County Bar Association Lawyers Referral Service and took on leadership roles there. In 1980 he was chairperson of the Civil Practice Committee and of the Workers’ Compensation Committee. That involvement placed him in regular contact with other practitioners, judges and clients facing civil and workplace disputes.

Mielke’s admissions include practice in Illinois and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Those credentials opened courtroom doors at state and federal levels. Over time he handled matters that required attention to procedural detail and an understanding of how different courts approach civil and employment-related claims.

Colleagues describe his approach as steady and procedural. He has experience guiding cases through pleadings, discovery and hearings. He has worked on matters that touch on state civil rules and the particular deadlines and evidentiary considerations that arise in workers’ compensation disputes. His committee work in the bar association informed his practical sense of how those areas operate day to day.

Outside of committee service, his career includes routine litigation tasks: drafting motions, arguing before trial courts and handling administrative proceedings. He has worked with clients who needed clear explanations of process and likely outcomes. He also supported other attorneys through the Lawyers Referral Service, connecting community members to legal resources.

Now in practice, Mielke continues to apply the legal training he received at Illinois and the procedural experience accumulated through bar work. He remains active in matters that require civil litigation experience and an understanding of workers’ compensation procedures. His current practice focuses on civil litigation and workers’ compensation matters.
