About Greg
Greg Shevlin built a steady career in private practice after studying politics and philosophy as an undergraduate. He earned a B.A. in political science and philosophy from Benedictine College in 1985 and later took up legal studies at Washburn University School of Law, where he completed his J.D. He moved into the Illinois legal community soon after.
Shevlin joined the State Bar of Illinois in 1988. That membership has remained a steady professional anchor through decades of practice. Early in his career he became a partner at Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin, Cook & Jones, LLP in 1990. That role put him in the midst of firm-level decision making and client work, and it shaped his approach to running a law office.
Over the years Shevlin handled matters typical of a lifelong practitioner in a regional market. He spent long stretches doing the day-to-day work of advising clients, preparing filings, and appearing in court when necessary. Colleagues describe him as methodical and practical in his handling of cases. He has balanced casework with the administrative responsibilities that come with partnership and later with managing his own office.
His practice path moved from partnership at a multi-attorney firm to establishing his own practice. He now operates out of Shevlin Law Group, LLC. That transition reflects a common arc among attorneys who seek more control over client service and firm management. It also reflects his preference for a smaller, more nimble practice structure.
Throughout his career Shevlin remained rooted in Illinois. He has maintained professional ties through the State Bar and through local networks developed over years of practice. Those connections support referrals and steady client intake. He handles matters for individuals and businesses that require an attorney familiar with state procedures and local courts.
Outside the office, Shevlin’s background in political science and philosophy informed a thoughtful view of law and public affairs. He applies that perspective when advising clients on practical options and legal risks, often favoring clear explanations over legalese.
Today Shevlin continues to serve clients from his office at Shevlin Law Group, LLC. He practices in Illinois and concentrates his work on serving individuals and businesses through his private practice.
