About Cory D.
Cory D. Raines graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. in Marketing and Spanish in 2011. He stayed in Athens to complete his legal studies, earning a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2014. His academic path combined business training and language study with legal education, a mix that shaped an early interest in matters that often cross between state and federal courts.
He began his legal career after law school and went on to establish his own firm in 2018. As founder and managing lawyer of Raines Legal Group, P.C., he has overseen the firm’s growth and daily operations. Running a small firm has required him to wear many hats: case strategist, client counselor, and the lawyer who appears in court.
Raines maintains active memberships in several courts and bar organizations. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and holds admissions that allow him to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is also admitted to the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Those admissions reflect the range of fora where he represents clients, from bankruptcy proceedings to appellate briefs.
His courtroom work includes appearances in federal bankruptcy proceedings and district court matters. He also handles matters that proceed to the Georgia Court of Appeals and the state Supreme Court when cases require appellate review. That mix of trial and appellate work has informed how he prepares cases—anticipating both immediate litigation needs and potential appellate issues.
Colleagues and clients describe him as someone who prefers direct, practical legal work. He tends to take cases that require careful procedural handling and clear written advocacy. Running a boutique practice means he is involved in the nuts and bolts of each matter, from drafting pleadings to arguing motions and preparing appellate filings.
Outside the courtroom, Raines manages the business side of his practice. Building a law office in a competitive legal market has meant balancing client work with administrative duties and firm development. He has kept his practice focused on the kinds of disputes and proceedings that intersect with the courts to which he is admitted.
Raines currently concentrates his practice on bankruptcy and appellate matters, representing clients in federal and state courts, including the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia.
