About Colin

Colin McLaughlin began his path toward the law at Alma College, where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration, Management and Operations in 2004. He continued his studies at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, receiving a J.D. in 2007. Those years provided classroom grounding and an introduction to the kinds of procedural and factual work that would shape his career.

His first professional post after law school was at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 2007, where he worked as a briefing lawyer. The role placed him close to appellate practice and the technical side of criminal law. In 2008 he moved into prosecutor’s offices, serving as an assistant district lawyer in Harris County. That work demanded courtroom time, witness preparation and case evaluation under the pressure typical of county prosecutions.

In 2011 McLaughlin joined the Tarrant County District Lawyer’s Office as an assistant district lawyer. There he continued prosecuting criminal cases and developed further trial experience. After several years in public service, he shifted to private practice. In 2016 he worked at Dunham & Jones, taking on defense and litigation matters that broadened his exposure to different client needs.

A year later he became a partner at Hoeller McLaughlin, PLLC. The move formalized a role in which he combines trial work with case strategy and client counseling. He holds Board Certification in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that signals an established practice in criminal matters and knowledge of Texas criminal procedure.

Outside casework McLaughlin has stayed engaged with the professional community. He is a member of the Texas Bar College and has belonged to the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association since 2017. He also holds membership in the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association beginning in 2018 and has been associated with the Texas District & County Lawyer’s Association. Those affiliations reflect ongoing contact with peers and continuing legal education in criminal law.

Colin McLaughlin’s career shows a steady progression from appellate briefing to county prosecution and then to private defense practice. He has courtroom experience on both sides of criminal cases and formal recognition from the state in criminal law. He currently practices at Hoeller McLaughlin PLLC, handling criminal defense matters.
