About Christopher J.

Christopher J. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the College of the Holy Cross in 2004 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 2009. He moved from academics into the practical work of a courtroom lawyer. The transition shaped his approach to case preparation and client counsel: clear, direct, and grounded in the law.

Jones began his tenure at The Law Offices of Edwards & Jones in 2017. Since arriving there he has focused his practice on criminal matters. The firm listing identifies him as a lawyer at that office, where he handles a range of tasks that include client interviews, motion practice, and courtroom appearances. His work has meant frequent contact with prosecuting attorneys, judges, and investigators.

He is admitted to practice in Florida and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to handle cases in both state courts and certain federal appellate proceedings. He holds memberships in several professional organizations: the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and its Eighth Judicial Circuit Chapter, the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association Criminal Law Section, and the American Bar Association. He maintains those ties to keep current on developments in criminal law and procedure.

Jones’s courtroom work ranges from pretrial motions to contested hearings. He prepares defenses, files motions on evidentiary and procedural issues, and represents clients at trial when matters proceed that far. He meets clients early in a case to assess the facts and counsel on options. In court, he presents arguments to judges and, when necessary, addresses juries. He has handled matters that require negotiation as well as those that require trial advocacy.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation. He tends to break complex legal questions into manageable parts and to prioritize the practical steps that move a case forward. That approach shows in the paperwork he files and in the way he arranges witness testimony and documentary evidence.

Outside of litigation, Jones participates in continuing legal education through bar sections and association events. He keeps abreast of changes in criminal statutes and appellate rulings that affect defense strategies. He currently practices at The Law Offices of Edwards & Jones, handling criminal defense matters in state and federal courts.
