About Christopher

Christopher Abel trained at Baylor Law School, entering in 2001 and earning his J.D. in 2004. He moved into practice immediately after law school, taking an associate position at Evans, Gandy, Daniel, and Moore the same year. Those early years provided routine courtroom work and an introduction to criminal matters that would shape his later career.

In 2005 Abel took a position as a prosecutor at the Denton County District Lawyer's Office. The role placed him in daily contact with felony and misdemeanor dockets and required work on investigations, hearings, and trial preparation. He left the prosecutor's office in 2007 to join Powers & Shanklin as an associate, where he continued to handle criminal defense and related litigation for several years.

Abel expanded his professional life beyond litigation when he began teaching. In 2009 he served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas, bringing practical courtroom experience into the classroom. That academic work ran alongside his private practice responsibilities and signaled an interest in training others about courtroom procedure and criminal law topics.

In 2014 he established The Law Office of Christopher Abel and took on the role of principal lawyer. Around the same time he assumed leadership within the local bar, serving as president of the Denton County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is also a founding member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association and an active member of several national and state organizations, including the National College of DUI Defense, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He has held membership in the Texas Bar College and maintains a lifetime association with his alma mater, Baylor University School of Law.

Abel's training includes specialized certifications relevant to impaired driving cases. He completed Forensic Breath Alcohol Testing Intoxilyzer 5000 Maintenance Technician training in 2013 through Jay Zager, Inc., and he is a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner through Lance Platt and Associates. Those credentials support technical work on breath testing and field sobriety issues that arise in DUI defense.

Today Abel runs his firm from Denton County and continues to handle criminal defense matters, including cases involving impaired driving, trial litigation, and pretrial motions. His practice combines courtroom experience, instructor-level training, and ongoing involvement in professional defense organizations.
