About Chris
Chris Macturk built his legal foundation at the University of Richmond, where he earned a B.A. in political science in 1991. He went on to receive a J.D. from Samford University in 1996. Those years set a clear path toward courtroom work and service in local bar organizations. He returned to Richmond repeatedly over the next two decades, blending practice, teaching and bar leadership.
He began practicing in 1996 as a sole practitioner under the name Christopher H. Macturk. Four years later he joined Barnes & Diehl, P.C. as a lawyer and shareholder. Over time his work gravitated toward family law and divorce matters, and his résumé shows a steady build of experience in contested and negotiated family-law cases. Colleagues and clients have often encountered him in courtroom settings and at mediation tables.
Macturk has taken on leadership roles in the legal community. He served as president of the Henrico County Bar Association from 2008 to 2009, and later led the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar Association from 2012 to 2013. In 2016 he chaired the Pro Bono Committee of the City of Richmond Bar Association. Since 2015 he has been a member of the Virginia Bar Association Domestic Relations Section Council. He holds fellow status in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and maintains memberships in state, local and international collaborative practice groups.
In 2016 he added an academic role, serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond School of Law. Students and faculty noted that he brought practical courtroom perspectives into the classroom, reflecting a practitioner who balances litigation experience with alternative dispute methods. Around the same period he increasingly engaged in collaborative practice networks, an interest that would shape his next career move.
In 2017 he founded Evolution Divorce & Family Law PLLC, establishing a practice dedicated to divorce, family law and collaborative dispute resolution in Virginia. The firm represents clients in negotiations, mediations and contested proceedings. Macturk continues to participate in local bar governance and collaborative professional organizations. He currently concentrates his practice on divorce, family law and collaborative dispute resolution in Virginia.
