About Chelsie King
Chelsie King Garza trained on both coasts. She earned a B.A. from Seton Hall University and completed her law degree at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 1999. Straight out of law school she served as a law clerk in 1999 to Kenneth MacKenzie, Prising Judge, Chancery, Superior Court of New Jersey. That early courtroom exposure came at a formative moment in her career and set the stage for subsequent work in private practice.
Her first roles after clerking were in New Jersey. In 2000 she worked as an associate at Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti, L.L.P. That position gave her experience at a firm with a broad state-level practice. The following year she moved to Texas and joined Porter & Hedges, L.L.P. as an associate. Her move reflected a shift to a different regional market and an expanding set of matters that she handled as she built her practice credentials.
By 2007 she was an associate at Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend. Over time she aligned her professional affiliations with membership in a number of bar organizations. She holds membership in the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. She is also a member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas. Her involvement extends to trial-focused groups, including the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Garza has taken on leadership responsibilities inside voluntary bar groups. Since 2011 she has served as Legislative Chair of the Association of Women Lawyers, and she has been a member of Texas Women Lawyers since 2011. She has participated in the Women & the Law Section of the State Bar as a committee member beginning in 2011 and served as that section’s chair from 2015 to 2016. She is admitted to practice in Texas, New York and New Jersey, and she maintains a multijurisdictional practice across those states.
