About Charles
Charles Goodwin built his legal grounding in Las Vegas classrooms and courtrooms. He earned a B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2014 after studying interdisciplinary fields that included Chinese studies. He went on to law school at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law and received his J.D. in 2018.
Early practical experience came while he was still a student. In 2017 he served as an extern in the Clark County Public Defender’s Office and spent a summer as an associate at the Law Offices of Michael Beede. During his final year of law school he worked as an extern with the Federal Public Defender in Las Vegas, assigned to the Non-Capital Habeas Unit. Those placements placed him inside public defense practice and federal habeas work at an early stage.
After law school he joined the Las Vegas Defense Group as an associate lawyer in 2019. There he handled client arraignments, negotiated plea offers and conducted hearings in state court. Two years later he left to open his own practice. In 2021 he became managing partner of Goodwin Law Group, PLLC, where he manages day-to-day operations and maintains a trial docket.
His professional memberships reflect the types of cases he handles. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College for DUI Defense since 2019. He was also a member of Nevada Lawyers for Criminal Justice from 2019 through 2021. Those affiliations signal ongoing engagement with criminal defense and DUI practice issues and continuing legal education in those areas.
Colleagues describe him as practical and straightforward in court. He has experience at both the trial and post-conviction stages of criminal cases, including work on federal habeas matters during his externship. He has handled client intake, case preparation and courtroom advocacy while overseeing administrative duties at his firm.
Goodwin practices in Nevada and operates his firm out of Las Vegas. He balances litigation responsibilities with managing a small firm and mentoring junior attorneys. He continues to take criminal and DUI cases while also supervising other lawyers at Goodwin Law Group, PLLC.
His current practice centers on defending people accused of criminal offenses and handling DUI-related matters in Nevada state courts.
