About Catherine

Catherine Aughey earned her Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo Law School in 2016 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2010. Her academic years in Buffalo placed her in proximity to some of the region’s legal institutions, and she carried that local connection into her professional life. She left law school ready to begin practice in New York.

She is admitted to practice in New York and began developing her career in the region. Early on she joined Dietrich Law Office P.C. as an associate lawyer. The role has given her steady exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of firm practice. She handles client work under the firm’s supervision and contributes to case preparation and courtroom tasks as needed.

Aughey has taken steps to remain engaged with the professional community around her. She holds memberships in the Erie County Bar Association and the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association. She is also active in the New York State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Those affiliations connect her to local practitioners and to peers at similar stages in their careers. They also offer access to continuing legal education and networking opportunities that shape how younger lawyers build experience in practice.

Colleagues describe her approach as methodical. She applies training from Buffalo Law School to practical problems encountered in firm work. Her courtroom exposure has grown through tasks typical for an associate attorney at a regional firm: drafting motions, conducting legal research, and assisting in trial preparation. The work has required attention to procedural rules and client communication, two areas she has emphasized in her daily practice.

Outside of court filings and client meetings, Aughey continues to strengthen her ties to the Buffalo legal community. Participation in bar groups keeps her informed about developments in state law and provides a forum for discussing strategy and practice issues with fellow lawyers. Her membership in the Young Lawyers Section signals engagement with issues facing early-career attorneys, from ethics to litigation techniques.

She remains based in Western New York and continues her work at Dietrich Law Office P.C. Her current practice focuses on the matters she handles as an associate at the firm.
