About Carol
Carol Avard began her legal journey after completing a liberal arts degree at Harvard in 1971 and earning her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law in 1980. Those years framed an interest in public benefits and trial work. She entered a changing legal landscape and built a practice that bridges federal and state disability systems.
She opened Avard Law Offices in 1989 and has served as owner and principal lawyer since then. Over decades she has handled appeals and trial matters in multiple forums. Her admissions include the Florida bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans’ Claims, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the Massachusetts bar. That mix of federal and state credentials has supported work on both federal benefits claims and related civil litigation.
Avard holds Board Certification in Social Security Disability Law from the National Board of Trial Advocacy. The credential sits alongside long-standing memberships in advocacy groups that address medical malpractice, social security, federal torts, and motor vehicle collisions. She has been involved in the National Organization of Social Security Representatives, serving on its board of directors from 2013 to 2015. Since 2018 she has been a member of the Social Security Disability Law Specialty Program Commission for the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
Her caseload has included claims before administrative tribunals and federal courts. She has pursued Social Security disability claims, veterans’ benefits appeals, and federal tort claims tied to injuries and medical-care disputes. The practice demands both appellate work and preparation for hearings. Clients encounter statutory deadlines and evidentiary hurdles; Avard’s work has focused on preparing case records, developing medical evidence, and arguing appeals when necessary.
Colleagues describe her approach as methodical and steady. She prioritizes clear case narratives and careful record development. Outside the office she has remained active in professional associations that shape practice standards for social security and malpractice work. She continues to lead Avard Law Offices, where she handles Social Security disability claims, veterans’ benefits appeals, and related federal tort and medical malpractice matters.
