About Carlos A.

Carlos A. Aldarondo combined technical training and legal study early in his career. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 2008 and completed a J.D. at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico in 2012. The mix of engineering and law would shape the kind of matters he took on as a lawyer.

While still in law school he worked inside the federal courthouse. In 2011 he served as a student law clerk to two judges at the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico: Hon. Daniel R. Dominguez and Hon. Gustavo A. Gelpi. Those clerkships exposed him to federal procedure and the realities of complex litigation early on.

After graduation he joined Aldarondo & Lopez Bras, P.S.C., first as a law clerk in 2012 and then as an attorney later that year. He has remained at the firm since then, performing work that draws on both his technical background and courtroom experience. He also spent time outside the firm as a volunteer mentor for Grupo Guayacan’s I-Corps PR program in 2018, advising entrepreneurs on the intersection of technology, business and intellectual property.

Aldarondo holds several professional credentials that reflect his dual interests. He is admitted to practice before the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and appears on the rolls of the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is also registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office after passing the Patent Bar. Additional credentials include Engineer in Training status from the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico and a Certified Patent Valuation Analyst designation from the Business Development Academy.

His practice weaves patent work, intellectual property counseling and federal litigation. The engineering degree provides a technical frame when prosecuting patents or assessing patent value. He handles patent prosecution matters before the USPTO and represents clients in federal court proceedings when disputes move beyond administrative channels.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in parsing technical specifications and attentive to procedural detail in federal filings. He balances file-driven patent work with direct engagement on courtroom matters when required. He currently practices at Aldarondo & Lopez Bras, P.S.C., handling patent prosecution, intellectual property counseling and federal litigation matters.
