About Donika
Donika Pentcheva built a career that moves between law firms, in-house roles and nonprofit governance. She began her formal legal studies with an LL.M. from The George Washington University Law School in 2015 and later pursued additional study at Harvard University in 2019. Those academic stops reflect a path that combines advanced legal training and broader professional development.
Her earliest recorded law practice was as a lawyer at Westman, Champlin & Koehler, P.A., where she worked in 2007. That early experience gave her a foundation in litigation and client counseling. In 2012 she joined the board of Merrick, Inc., taking on responsibilities that extended beyond casework and into organizational oversight. The board position signaled an interest in governance and community ties alongside her legal practice.
By 2016 Pentcheva was working in roles that intersected intellectual property and corporate law. Records show she served as an associate at K&L Gates that year and also held a patent lawyer position at PayPal. Her time at K&L Gates placed her within a large firm environment where matter management and client relationships are structured and collaborative. At PayPal she worked inside a technology company where patent strategy and IP protection are part of day-to-day business decisions.
Her credentials include admission to practice in Minnesota, registration at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and admission to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions complement her membership in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, which she has maintained since 2010. She has also served in a role as Secretary of NLS within the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2010, reflecting participation in state bar activities early in her career.
Pentcheva’s resume has threads of patent law, corporate practice and nonprofit governance. She has navigated firm settings and in-house teams. She has worked on matters that require technical and legal understanding, and she has kept ties to professional groups that focus on intellectual property.
Pentcheva taught a course on appellate advocacy involving intellectual property. The law school course was focused on legal writing and oral advocacy skills needed to appeal an intellectual property matter to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
