About Carl Taylor
Carl Taylor III earned his law degree from Rutgers School of Law–Camden in 2009 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at Saint Joseph's University in 2006. He began his legal career immediately after law school, clerking for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, Family Part. That early exposure to family court matters helped shape his practical grasp of courtroom procedure and case management.
After his clerkship he joined Altman, Legband & Mayrides as an associate in 2010. He opened his own practice, The Law Office of Carl A. Taylor III, in 2011 and handled a mix of municipal, family and criminal matters. Public service followed. He served as Deputy Public Defender in Highland Park in 2012 and took on several conflict public defender assignments in 2013 for Middlesex Borough, Raritan Borough and Bound Brook Township. Those roles gave him regular courtroom experience at the municipal level.
In 2014 his practice expanded into municipal prosecution and municipal defense work. He worked as Municipal Prosecutor for South Bound Brook and served as a public defender for Middlesex Borough. That year he also moved back into private practice as an associate at Cooper & Rodgers, LLC. The next year he became a partner at Cooper, Cottell & Taylor, a position he held while continuing to accept court appointments and municipal assignments.
Taylor has combined private practice with active participation in local bar organizations. He joined the Family Law Inn of Court in 2010 and has been a member since then. He has served as a Trustee of the Somerset County Bar Association beginning in 2013 and previously co-chaired the Young Lawyers Division. From 2012 he has maintained memberships in county bar associations including Hunterdon County. He served on the Somerset County Bar Foundation as a trustee from 2013 to 2015 and represented Somerset County as a local delegate to the New Jersey State Bar Association from 2012 to 2015. He was a member of the New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutors Association from 2014 through 2017.
In 2024 Taylor joined The Simone Law Office, P.C. as a lawyer. His background combines courtroom work in family and municipal courts, public defense and municipal prosecution, and private family law practice. He practices in New Jersey and his current work at The Simone Law Office, P.C. handles family law, municipal and criminal matters in the state.
