About Brendan
Brendan McCarthy built a steady legal career that moves from national classrooms to federal courtrooms and into private practice. He studied at the University of Notre Dame for both undergraduate and law school, receiving a B.A. in 2000 and a J.D. in 2004. Those years at Notre Dame shaped his approach to legal work: methodical, disciplined and attentive to detail.
After law school McCarthy headed into public service. By 2013 he was serving as an Assistant U.S. Lawyer in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana. In that role he worked on a range of federal matters and became familiar with the procedures and pressures of litigating in federal court. The position demanded intensive case preparation and courtroom work. It also required coordination with investigative agencies and other government offices.
Following his time in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, McCarthy transitioned into private practice. In 2022 he joined Sattiraju & Tharney LLP as counsel. The move brought him into a firm environment where he advises clients and contributes to litigation strategies. His title reflects a senior advisory role within the firm structure and signals experience handling complex matters.
McCarthy is licensed in New Jersey and has practiced in settings that involve federal law and civil litigation. His background in a federal prosecutor’s office gave him exposure to the mechanics of federal prosecution and defense, as well as experience managing case files, motions practice and courtroom hearings. In private practice he applies those courtroom habits to client counseling and dispute work.
Colleagues describe McCarthy as methodical in his case preparation and pragmatic in court. He favors clear organization of facts and law. That approach is evident in both his work for the government and his later work at the firm. He has navigated case timelines, discovery demands and trial scheduling across different dockets.
Today McCarthy practices at Sattiraju & Tharney LLP, where his work concentrates on litigation and advising clients on matters that involve federal law and procedural complexity.
