About C. Carter

C. Carter Clay builds his work on steady courtroom experience and a long run through Alabama’s legal institutions. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1995 and went on to receive a J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1999. Those classroom years set the stage for a practice grounded in litigation and court procedure.

Clay is admitted to practice in Alabama and before the Alabama Supreme Court. He is also credentialed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the federal district courts in Alabama. Over the years he has moved between trial dockets and appellate filings, learning how procedures differ and what persuades judges at each level. He handles pleadings, motions, and courtroom advocacy across state and federal matters.

He joined Hollis Wright and rose to partner in 2013. That promotion followed years of hands-on courtroom work and case management. At the firm he has been part of teams preparing complex filings and trying cases in both state and federal venues. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he prepares carefully for hearings and trials. He balances factual detail with an eye toward persuasive legal argument.

Clay maintains active memberships in professional organizations. He belongs to the Alabama State Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. He is also a member of the Alabama Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice. Those associations connect him to continuing legal education, peer networks, and local court developments.

Outside the courtroom Clay remains focused on practice essentials: thorough preparation, timely case management, and clear client communication. He handles discovery and pretrial strategy, and he often participates in appellate briefing when a matter moves beyond the trial level. He is comfortable switching between the fast pace of trial calendars and the slower, more deliberate work of appeals.

Clients and colleagues find him steady and practical. He does not seek the spotlight; he works on the case in front of him and presses the legal arguments the situation requires. His career trajectory — from law school in the late 1990s to partnership at Hollis Wright in 2013 and beyond — reflects sustained involvement in Alabama courts. He currently practices at Hollis Wright, representing clients in civil litigation matters in Alabama’s state and federal courts.
