About Bruce E
Bruce E Buchanan built a legal foundation in the 1970s and early 1980s. He earned a B.S. in political science from Florida State University’s Panama City campus in 1979 and completed a J.D. at Vanderbilt University Law School in 1982. Those years set the stage for a career that has mixed practice, teaching and professional writing.
He taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law in 1991. That early academic role preceded a return to private practice and partnership work. In 2003 he joined King & Ballow as a partner. He later worked at Siskind Susser, first as a lawyer in 2013 and then listed as of counsel in 2015. Also in 2015 he became partner and owner of Sebelist Buchanan Law PLLC.
Buchanan is admitted to practice in multiple state and federal jurisdictions. He holds bar membership before the supreme courts of Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Arkansas. He is also admitted to practice in the Sixth and Eighth U.S. Circuits. That multi-jurisdictional reach has allowed him to take matters at both state and federal levels, including appellate work.
His practice has centered on immigration law and matters that intersect with employment and administrative procedure. He has represented employers and individuals in a range of immigration cases, and he has participated in litigation that requires familiarity with federal circuit rules and procedures. He also contributes to legal publications and newsletters aimed at practitioners.
Professional and bar activities have remained part of his public work. Buchanan has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and joined AILA’s Board of Publications in 2018, a role he continues to hold. Since 2015 he has served as editor of the Georgia-Alabama AILA 11th Circuit newsletter. He chaired the Immigration Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association from 2014 to 2015.
His involvement extends beyond bar groups. He has been a board member of Be About Change since 2016 and maintains membership in the Associated General Contractors beginning in 2013. These positions reflect an interest in community and industry issues that touch on immigration and labor.
Across decades in practice and occasional teaching, Buchanan has combined courtroom work, appellate filings and editorial responsibilities. He now practices through Sebelist Buchanan Law PLLC and continues to handle immigration and related litigation for clients in multiple jurisdictions.
