About Seamus
Seamus Kelly trained on two continents before he began practicing law in the United States. He earned a B.A. in Business and Political Science from Trinity College, University of Dublin in 2004. He returned to school in the U.S. and received a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2013.
Kelly entered practice the same year he finished law school. He joined Branstetter, Stranch & Jennings as an associate, where he handled courtroom work and case development for plaintiffs. That early stretch of litigation forged his courtroom habits: careful preparation, steadiness under pressure and an appetite for trial work.
In 2019 he left the associate track and helped start Music City Law, PLLC. As a co-founding partner he has overseen the growth of a small firm and helped set its litigation posture. He has managed case intake, developed litigation strategy and supervised younger lawyers. In that role he has split time between client-facing work and the administrative tasks that come with running a firm.
Kelly is admitted to practice in Tennessee and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He holds memberships in the Nashville Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association dating back to 2013. He is also a member of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and has listed that membership since 2015. Those affiliations reflect the contours of his practice: trial work in state and federal courts, case development and litigation management.
Colleagues describe him as practical in court and exacting in preparation. He tends to take cases through the discovery phase and, where appropriate, toward trial. He has been involved in jury preparation and motion practice, and he continues to handle hearings and appeals that reach the Sixth Circuit.
Beyond court work, Kelly’s role at a small firm requires him to handle a range of tasks beyond pure litigation. He organizes case files, mentors junior attorneys and helps steer the firm’s approach to client communication. He also participates in local professional organizations and legal education events through bar groups.
He lives and practices in Nashville, where he runs Music City Law, PLLC. His current practice is concentrated on civil litigation and trial matters in Tennessee and in federal courts under the Sixth Circuit.
