About Brian R
Brian R Dettman began his academic journey at Johns Hopkins University, earning a B.A. in 2002. He continued his legal education at Stetson University College of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2007. Those formative years set the foundation for a career that has crossed public service and private practice.
He entered public service in 2010 when he joined the State of Florida as an Assistant State Lawyer. In that role he worked on matters for the state and gained courtroom experience and familiarity with government processes. The position gave him exposure to trial preparation and case management in a high-volume public law office.
By 2013 he was practicing under the Dettman and Associates name. He handled client representation in a variety of matters and built a practice that spans two jurisdictions. Over the years his work in private practice has included courtroom appearances and client counseling. He later established his office under the name Dettman Law, where he continues to receive clients.
Dettman has maintained professional memberships throughout his career. He joined the Kentucky Justice Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Louisville Bar Association in 2014, retaining all three memberships to the present. More recently he became a member of the American Bar Association in 2024. He also holds a Safe Sport Certification from USA Hockey, a credential that indicates training in the program’s standards and requirements.
He is licensed to practice in both Kentucky and Florida and has worked in legal settings across those states. His experience includes time as a state lawyer and as counsel in private practice. Those roles have given him experience in litigation and in managing client matters from intake through resolution.
He currently practices at Dettman Law and handles matters for clients in Kentucky and Florida. He currently focuses his practice on representing clients in legal matters across both states.
