About Marque
Marque Carey brings a varied background to her work in private practice. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Tennessee State University in 2002. She returned to school in Louisville and completed both a Master of Science in Social Work and a Juris Doctor at the University of Louisville in 2010.
Her early professional steps combined teaching and public service. In 2010 she served as an adjunct instructor at ITT Technical Institute. The following year she joined the Executive Office of the United States Trustee for the Western District of Kentucky, where she worked on matters handled by that office. In 2014 she moved into private practice as an attorney at Smith and Carey, PLLC.
Carey later accepted a position in federal administration. In 2020 she worked at the U.S. Small Business Administration as a lawyer advisor and supervisory grants management specialist. That role added federal grant oversight and regulatory responsibilities to her résumé. In 2023 she began practicing with Shur Law Co., LPA, a firm with multiple offices across Kentucky and Ohio.
She is licensed to practice in Indiana and Kentucky. Her experience spans government and private environments, including both local and federal systems. That variety has given her exposure to litigation, administrative work, and the obligations that come with managing federal grants and compliance tasks. Colleagues describe her approach as pragmatic and attentive to procedural detail.
Shur Law Co., LPA lists several regional offices where Carey handles matters: Louisville and Northern Kentucky, multiple Cincinnati-area locations, Akron, and other nearby sites. She divides time among those offices to serve clients across state lines. The mix of urban and regional practice settings reflects the geographic scope of the firm's clientele and the cross-jurisdictional nature of several case types she manages.
Her academic background in social work and criminal justice informs how she assesses client needs and the broader context of legal problems. That perspective can surface in client interviews and case strategy, especially when matters touch on public benefits, regulatory programs or administrative processes.
She currently practices at Shur Law Co., LPA and centers her work on representing clients in matters that involve state and federal law.
