About Brian Curtis

Brian Curtis Hunt left Chapel Hill in 2008 with a degree in political science and a clear interest in the law. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008 and went on to earn his J.D. from Elon University School of Law in 2011. Those years set the foundation for the courtroom work that would follow.

He began his legal career after law school and has practiced law in the years since. Hunt is licensed to practice in North Carolina and before the Cherokee Supreme Court of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. He has been a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice since 2016, participating in a community of lawyers who handle litigation matters across the state.

Hunt’s background in political science informs a practical approach to legal problems. He gravitates toward litigation and courtroom work. He prepares cases methodically and values clarity in legal writing and oral argument. Colleagues note that he pays attention to procedural detail and to the sometimes-overlooked factual threads that shape outcomes in court.

Over the course of his career he has handled matters that required appearances in state and tribal courts. Those proceedings can differ substantially from one another. Hunt’s licensing in both jurisdictions allows him to navigate those differences for his clients. He understands the procedural rules that apply in North Carolina courts and the distinctive practices of the Cherokee Supreme Court of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Professional membership has been a steady part of his practice life. His ongoing involvement with the North Carolina Advocates for Justice has connected him to continuing education and to peers who focus on trial work. Outside of that organization, he has engaged with the legal community through events and trainings aimed at sharpening courtroom skills and staying current on statutory and case law developments.

Hunt maintains a practice centered on representing clients in the courts where he is licensed. He combines a methodical case-preparation style with regular courtroom appearances. He currently practices in North Carolina and before the Cherokee Supreme Court of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
