About Brenda
Brenda Nelms is a family law attorney based in Sarasota, Florida. She has been practicing law for over 16 years, focusing exclusively on family and divorce matters. Ms. Nelms earned her Bachelor of Science in Economics from Georgia State University in 1997, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
During her undergraduate studies, she was honored as the Wall Street Journal Student of the Year for her exceptional achievements in economics. She then pursued her Juris Doctor at George Mason University School of Law, graduating in 2000. Admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2000 and the Florida Bar in 2004, Ms. Nelms has dedicated her legal career to family law.
She believes in resolving divorce cases through mediation and collaboration whenever possible and was among the first in Sarasota County to be certified in collaborative law. In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Nelms has been actively involved in the Sarasota community. She served as the President of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Sarasota Chapter, from 2007 to 2008.
