About Bradley E.
Bradley E. Smith came to law after a first career at sea. He earned a B.A. in history and political science from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2005 and later completed a J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law in 2014. Those two degrees bookend a period of military service that shaped his early professional choices and leadership style.
Smith began his career in the United States Navy as a surface warfare officer, holding the rank of lieutenant. He continued his naval service in the reserves, advancing to lieutenant commander by 2011. Those years in uniform included operational responsibilities and time leading small teams. The experience gave him practical exposure to rules, procedure and the consequences of high-stakes decision making.
After law school Smith entered public service. In 2015 he joined the Mesa County District Lawyer’s Office as a deputy district lawyer. He handled prosecutions at the county level and worked on cases that required coordination with law enforcement and victim advocates. He later moved into criminal defense work, joining the Colorado Legal Defense Group in 2020. That year he shifted perspective from representing the state to representing individuals charged with crimes. The change broadened his courtroom experience and deepened his familiarity with defense strategy.
In 2021 Smith began practicing with Smith & Weidinger P.L.L.C. in Colorado. His résumé shows a steady movement between public and private roles that touches on both sides of the criminal justice system. He draws on his military background, prosecutorial work and defense experience when advising clients and handling litigation. Colleagues describe him as methodical in court preparation and direct in client communication.
Outside the courtroom Smith has remained connected to the reserves and to local legal circles. He lives and works in Colorado and maintains an active presence in regional practice. He is admitted to practice in Colorado and represents clients in criminal matters at Smith & Weidinger P.L.L.C.
