About Megan
Megan Matthews earned her undergraduate degree in French from the University of Colorado Denver, completing a B.A. in 2004 after beginning studies in 2001. She returned to Denver for law school and received her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2011, where her coursework included international law.
Her legal career began in the Denver area almost immediately after law school. In 2011 she served as an adjunct professor at the Sturm College of Law, teaching while establishing herself in practice. The next year she joined McDivitt Law Office as a lawyer and also took on a role outside traditional practice as Interim Director of Development at the Sustainable Development Strategies Group. Those positions gave her a mix of courtroom exposure and organizational work.
Matthews broadened her experience in 2014 when she worked as a project assistant for Oceans Beyond Piracy. That engagement connected her legal training to international project work. She returned to firm practice in 2015 as an associate at Franklin D. Azar & Associates, P.C., and later moved to Denver Trial Lawyers, where she is listed as a lawyer as of 2019. Her path shows a pattern of alternating between litigation roles and positions that touch policy and development.
She is a member of the Colorado State Bar since 2011 and holds memberships in the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. Matthews is also a member of the American Society of International Law. She is admitted to practice in Colorado and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Those credentials support work in both state and federal courts.
Colleagues describe Matthews as a practitioner comfortable in the courtroom and attentive to the procedural demands of trial work. Her background includes classroom instruction, organizational development, international project assistance and a steady progression through local firms before joining her current office. She maintains an active practice at Denver Trial Lawyers and handles trial litigation in Colorado and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
