About Basil David Beck
Basil David Beck III built a steady legal career that began with classroom study and moved quickly into courtroom work. He graduated from Villanova University in 1982 with a B.A. in political science. Six years later he earned his J.D. from Widener University Delaware School of Law in 1988.
His early years in the profession were shaped by two judicial clerkships. In 1990 he served as a law clerk to the Honorable William R. Sheppard at the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. He then spent 1992 clerking for the Honorable Maurino J. Rossanese, Jr. at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas. Those placements offered prolonged exposure to trial practice, motion work and written opinions.
After his clerkships Beck moved into roles that placed him in front of juries and judges. In 1997 he worked as a Special Assistant Public Defender in the Montgomery County Public Defenders Office. That position involved representing clients in criminal matters at the trial level. Prior to that, in 1993, he began operating his own practice as a sole practitioner under the name Law Offices of Basil D. Beck III. He has balanced public-sector and private practice experience across his career.
He holds licenses to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Over the years he has handled courtroom appearances, pretrial motions and client counseling. His background includes drafting pleadings and preparing cases for trial, tasks commonly required of trial attorneys and public defenders. Colleagues and opposing counsel would describe him as an attorney familiar with the calendars and procedures of county courts in the region.
Beck’s work has been anchored in trial-level litigation since the early 1990s. His law school training and consecutive clerkships gave him a foundation in court procedure. Time in the public defender’s office brought regular courtroom work and client advocacy. Running a solo office has required him to manage both legal work and the practical demands of a small practice.
He continues to practice through the Law Offices of Basil D. Beck III. He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense and trial representation in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
