About Barry J.

Barry J. Simon built his legal foundation at two Southern California schools. He earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology from California State University, Long Beach in 1975. That same year he received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Those years set a fast pace. He moved quickly into practical legal work.

Early in his career he served a summer clerkship in 1978 for Commissioner Gorenfeld. That experience preceded a string of associate positions across Los Angeles-area firms. In 1980 he worked as an associate at Urquhart & Haasis, A.P.C. The following year he joined the Law Office of Roswell Bottum as an associate attorney. In 1983 he became an associate at the Law Office of James H. Davis, where he handled a range of litigation matters.

By 1985 he had taken on the role of lead trial lawyer at Thaler & Thaler. That post put him in the courtroom regularly. He tried cases and managed trial preparation. Two years later he launched his own practice, operating as the Law Offices of Barry J. Simon beginning in 1987. He has handled matters for private clients and for firms seeking experienced trial counsel.

On the appellate side he is admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit and the Federal Circuit, in addition to California state courts. Those admissions allow him to follow matters beyond the trial court and to handle briefs and oral argument at higher levels. He is experienced in the procedures that govern federal appellate and certain specialized federal claims.

His involvement in professional organizations and court programs has complemented his courtroom work. From 1994 to 2002 he served as an arbitrator and settlement officer for the Los Angeles Superior Court. He held membership in the Consumer Attorneys of California between 1988 and 2002, and earlier belonged to the American Bar Association from 1979 to 1985. He also served on the San Diego Bar Ethics Committee from 1980 to 1981.

Over several decades he moved between associate roles, trial leadership, and solo practice. That path exposed him to courtroom procedures, motion practice, and settlement processes. He has presented cases at trial and participated in appellate work in federal and state forums.

As of 2026 he continues to maintain a law practice through the Law Offices of Barry J. Simon. He handles litigation matters across California and represents clients in matters that may proceed to the Ninth Circuit or the Federal Circuit, focusing his work on courtroom litigation and appellate representation.
