About Audrey

Audrey Grossman earned a B.A. from Wittenberg University in 1990, after four years studying East Asian studies, political science and economics. She spent part of that undergraduate period at Nanjing University in 1989, studying Chinese language and culture. Grossman returned to the United States for law school and completed her J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1995.

After law school she entered the practice of law in California. She is licensed to practice in that state. Early in her career she built experience handling contested matters, learning courtroom procedure and the practical demands of client representation. Her academic background in international studies and language continues to inform the way she approaches complex factual records and clients whose matters touch multiple jurisdictions.

Over the years Grossman’s work has involved litigation and counseling in civil matters. She has handled disputes that required detailed motion practice, fact development and negotiation. In court she has argued before trial judges and taken part in dispositive proceedings. Outside the courtroom she has prepared briefs, met with clients to assess risk and worked with experts when technical issues arose.

Grossman joined Freeman Freeman & Smiley as part of her ongoing practice in California. At the firm she takes on a range of matters that frequently involve contested liability issues and coverage questions. Colleagues describe her as careful with written work and deliberate in planning litigation strategy. She balances court appearances, client meetings and case preparation in a manner that keeps files moving and clients informed.

Her teaching and study background gives her a particular ease with documents in other languages and the ability to parse material from international sources. That experience can prove useful when cases involve overseas records or witnesses. She also draws on an analytical approach cultivated at Harvard Law School to manage procedural complexities and briefing schedules.

In her current practice at Freeman Freeman & Smiley she focuses on litigation and insurance-related matters.
