About Ashley C.

Ashley C. Walter combines a multidisciplinary academic background with experience at a national law firm. She began her undergraduate studies at Cornell University, graduating in 2006 from the College Scholar Program with an A.B. That early, self-directed course of study set the stage for graduate work that bridged humanities and law.

She returned to Stanford for graduate study, completing both an M.A. in Religious Studies and a J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2009. Her time at Stanford involved sustained engagement with questions of belief, culture and the frameworks that govern public life. She also undertook business ethics research at Santa Clara University, adding a practical dimension to her academic interests.

After law school, Walter’s résumé includes work at Fenwick & West LLP. Records list the firm among her professional experience. That environment exposed her to the issues that commonly arise for technology and corporate clients, and to the demands of a large firm practice.

Her academic formation is notable for its range. A background in religious studies informs an attention to context and competing values. Work in business ethics and a law degree supply tools for advising clients and for legal analysis. Together, those strands give her a framework for addressing disputes, regulations and transactions in ways that attend to both principle and practicality.

She is licensed to practice in Washington. Her practice has involved representation of clients in matters that require both legal precision and an understanding of organizational dynamics. Colleagues describe her approach as careful and methodical; she favors clear legal reasoning and attention to factual detail.

Outside the office, Walter’s academic record suggests continuing interest in how institutions and ethical questions intersect. That interest appears in the mix of coursework and research she pursued at Cornell, Stanford and Santa Clara. It also shapes how she prepares for hearings and negotiates on behalf of clients.

She currently practices in Washington at Fenwick & West LLP, directing her work toward matters at the intersection of business and law.
