About Anthony

Anthony Hohn earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2004 and completed his legal studies at the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2007. His time in law school coincided with a period of steady expansion in the state’s legal community. The classroom and the courthouse shaped his early approach to the law.

After law school, Hohn spent a year as a judicial law clerk in the Second Judicial Circuit in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In that role he worked directly with judges on matters pending before the court, conducted legal research, and prepared written memoranda and draft opinions. The clerkship offered him a close view of case management and judicial decision-making early in his career.

He is licensed to practice law in South Dakota and later moved into private practice. Hohn is an attorney at Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith, LLP. At the firm he applies the procedural and analytical skills developed on the bench and in law school to client matters handled by the office.

Colleagues describe Hohn as steady and methodical in his legal work. He pursues careful analysis of statutes and precedent, and he pays attention to the practical mechanics of litigation and court procedure. The experience of drafting opinions and bench memoranda during his clerkship continues to inform how he constructs written arguments and prepares witnesses for testimony.

Hohn’s educational background in Nebraska and South Dakota provides a regional perspective on the legal issues his clients face. He keeps current on changes to state law and court rules that affect practice in South Dakota courts. That practical, local orientation matches the firm’s broader work in the state.

Outside of court filings and client meetings, Hohn participates in firm efforts to streamline case preparation and improve internal workflows. He brings a quiet, disciplined style to case management and to mentoring more junior associates when the occasion arises.

He maintains memberships in professional organizations relevant to his role. His present practice is centered at Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith, LLP and focuses on matters handled through the firm in South Dakota.
