About Lindsay M.
Lindsay M. Harris combines Midwestern training and a steady courtroom presence. She grew up studying politics and law in her home state and stayed to build a legal practice that centers on planning and preservation.
Harris earned a B.A. in political science from the University of South Dakota. She then remained in Vermillion for law school, graduating from the University of South Dakota School of Law. Those years provided her a foundation in both transactional work and litigation principles. She is admitted to practice in South Dakota and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Early in her career Harris joined local professional groups that aligned with planning work. Over time she expanded that network to include national organizations. Her memberships include the American Bar Association, Wealth Counsel and the Second Circuit Bar Association. She is also active in regional circles such as the Sioux Falls Estate Planning Council and the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce. Niche groups that reflect her practice interests include the Farm Planning Counsel, Business Planning Counsel and Asset Protection Planning Counsel. She has also joined social and professional networks in the community, including an organization called The Bakery.
Those associations reflect the mix of matters that fill her calendar. Colleagues describe her as methodical in drafting estate documents and deliberate in handling guardianship and probate matters. She prepares wills and trust instruments, advises on asset protection strategies, and counsels family business owners on succession plans. When issues escalate, she is comfortable handling litigation or appellate filings available under her Eighth Circuit admission.
Her practice crosses private and family enterprises. Farmers and business owners appear among her clients because of her work on farm planning and business continuity. She also advises individual clients on tax-aware strategies for transferring wealth and limiting exposure to creditors. Participation in Wealth Counsel and the Sioux Falls Estate Planning Council keeps her conversant on evolving tools and model documents used in planning work.
Harris practices at Harris Law & Co. in South Dakota. She balances office work and client meetings with involvement in community organizations and professional study. Her current practice concentrates on estate planning, asset protection, farm and business planning, and related litigation and appellate matters.
