About Anna
Anna Summersett earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Argumentation and Rhetoric from Baylor University in 2006 and a Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2009. Her academic record combined study of argument with courtroom-focused legal training. The sequence of degrees helped shape a practice grounded in trial work and statutory analysis.
She began gaining courtroom experience while still a student. In 2008 she interned at the Office of the Attorney General of Texas and at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas. After law school she completed several post-bar internships in 2009, including stints with the Tarrant County Judicial Staff Counsel and the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office. Those placements exposed her to the mechanics of case preparation, plea negotiation and courtroom procedure.
Her early prosecutorial career continued in 2010 when she served as an assistant district attorney in both Tarrant County and Cameron County. In those roles she handled a range of criminal matters at the trial level. The work required frequent appearances before judges and juries, and it reinforced the practical trial skills she had developed in internships and in law school clinic settings.
In 2014 Summersett joined Varghese Summersett PLLC as a partner. That same year she earned Board Certification in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that reflects specialized training and testing in criminal law under Texas rules. She maintains memberships in several professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Litigation Counsel of America. Her professional involvement spans local and national groups and includes earlier participation in county bar and district attorney associations.
Summersett is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Her courtroom practice remains centered on criminal defense and related litigation. Peers describe her approach as methodical; she prepares witness examinations and written motions with attention to detail and a clear sense of trial strategy. She combines experience from both sides of the courtroom: prosecutorial time early in her career and many years defending clients thereafter.
She practices at Varghese Summersett PLLC, where she handles trials, appeals and pretrial litigation. Her current practice centers on criminal defense and appellate work in Texas and federal courts.
