About Andrew M.

Not many lawyers combine biology, electrical engineering and technology law on their résumé. Andrew M. Goldberg did just that. He studied organismic and evolutionary biology at Harvard, then earned a Master of Engineering in electrical engineering from Boston University before completing a J.D. at Cornell where he studied technology and law. That academic mix informs how he approaches intellectual property problems.

Goldberg moved from technical study into legal practice in a way that tracked the evolution of modern patent work. He holds registrations and admissions that reflect that trajectory: he is licensed in California and Florida and is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Those credentials allow him to file patent applications, respond to office actions and advise clients on patent strategy across state and federal venues.

His technical background often shapes the matters he accepts. He has handled patent prosecution and related IP matters that require an understanding of electronics and biological systems. His education gives him a practical vocabulary for translating lab notebooks, circuit descriptions and technical schematics into the language the patent office expects. Colleagues and clients say he is comfortable in meetings with engineers and scientists because he can speak their language and then translate it into legal claims.

At Christopher & Weisberg, P.A., Goldberg works alongside litigators and patent prosecutors. The firm is known for IP litigation and enforcement work. Goldberg’s role has included drafting patent applications, preparing responses to patent office inquiries and advising on patent portfolio management for companies at different stages of development. He has also assisted with trademark and copyright questions when they intersect with product development and commercialization.

Outside of drafting and prosecution, Goldberg spends time reviewing licensing agreements and advising on patentability before companies invest in further development. He approaches each engagement by identifying the technical elements that will matter most in prosecution and by mapping those to legal strategies that can sustain claims. He keeps up with changes at the USPTO and trends in patent eligibility that affect both electronics and biotech inventions.

He practices at Christopher & Weisberg, P.A., admitted in California, the USPTO and Florida. His current practice centers on patent prosecution, patent portfolio development and IP counseling for clients in the technology and life sciences sectors.
