About Andrew D.
Andrew D. Alpert has been a visible presence in Maryland and the District of Columbia legal communities for decades. He earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 1989 after completing a B.A. at Franklin & Marshall College in 1986. His training put him at the intersection of courtroom procedure and forensic evidence early in his career.
He began his public-service career as an Assistant State's Lawyer in Charles County and later in Prince George's County, Maryland. Those years in county prosecutor offices gave him regular exposure to criminal cases of varying complexity. He handled prosecutions, worked with investigators, and gained practical experience in how cases move from arrest to trial.
Alpert later moved into private practice. He served as a partner at Meng & Alpert, LLC and is a partner at Alpert Schreyer, LLC. In private practice he has represented clients in criminal matters, drawing on his prior prosecutorial experience to test evidence and cross-examine witnesses. His courtroom work reflects an interest in technical and scientific issues that often arise in criminal prosecutions.
That interest in technical evidence appears in his professional credentials. He holds Drug Recognition Expert (Advanced) certification from NHTSA/IACP and is certified as an NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Test Instructor. He is a U.S. Department of Transportation certified technician for multiple Intoxilyzer models and has earned a Forensic Lawyer Scientist credential from ACS-CHAL. Those certifications inform how he approaches cases that involve impaired driving, toxicology, and other scientific topics.
His association memberships underscore a long-standing engagement with criminal-defense circles. He is a member of the National Trial Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and is listed as the association’s Vice President. He is the Maryland State Representative for the National College for DUI Defense and chairs the Maryland Criminal Defense Lawyers Association’s Legislative Group on Narcotics. He also holds memberships in the Maryland Association for Justice, Prince George’s County Bar Association, the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Society for Legal Advocates, and the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, which he helped found.
He brings courtroom experience, technical training, and organizational leadership to his practice. He currently practices at Alpert Schreyer, LLC, representing clients in criminal matters, including DUI and narcotics-related cases.
